((J938) An earlyish wartime parts made 1957 German Cross in gold. The cross in my opinion has an original wartime silver and black back star, hinge and hook and possibly the silver central dish and wreath. The Iron cross centre has been nicely attached to the disc, and the cross is in near mint condition. To the reverse, it has four hollow silver rivets, which again are well defined. It has been stated by one person that the cross has been an original that has been disassembled and reassembled by the firm of Steinhauer to make it a '57 version. I cannot agree or disagree since this is possible, and the quality is superb. The cross comes in a case that is hinged and opened by a press stud and may have been made using war time parts. The case has a steel double hinge to the reverse and a steel press stud that opens it. The white silk lined under lid has the impression of the '57 cross to the lid and is of non glowing silk. The black flocked base is of nice quality and shows where the cross has been sitting in it for several years. When the black base is lifted, it shows old glue as well as old material and I think could possibly be a wartime case but I wouldn't swear to it. A rare set to find nowadays. GPB £800.00 (UK Pounds)
