A German Iron Cross 1st Class in its Near Mint Case and bashed up Outer Card Cover

(CS536) A Near Mint Example of an Iron Cross 1st Class in its Near Mint Case and bashed up Outer Card Cover. The card cover is split but has protected the case very well. The card case is marked Rufolf Souval Wein 62/VII. It also has the award's designation printed to it. When the box is closed up, it still protects the case. The case is a nice domed type being the D and B marked example. This is to be found under the flocked base. This has some minor staining or impression marks to the underside of the lid and flocking base. The cross itself is a nice toned example and has the features associated with the firm of Souval. The cross has no splitting or cracking to it and is unmarked. A nice set to acquire with its scarce card box and they are not turning up too often any more. A nice veteran bring back item.

Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS

The Finnish Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS was a formation with a very unique history. Its members volunteered, and were spirited out of Finland to Germany under the watchful Russian eyes. Never completely supported by the various Finnish political factions,
The battalion joined the SS-Wiking Division in January 1942 and fought in southern Russia and the Caucasus until its mission ended in April 1943. Its soldiers badly needed on the home front, it was recalled due to intense pressure from the Finnish government. The battalion served with great sacrifice and proved itself worthy of being a part of one of Germany's elite divisions. Despite the language barrier, its soldiers adapted well and fought bravely shoulder to shoulder with their German comrades-in-arms. Long-overdue, their story is now told in this volume.
