A Knights Cross Grouping of items to Knights Cross Holder Arthur Haußels

(V261) A Very Rare Early to find German Knight's Cross Grouping :
Consisting of a Knight's Cross to the Iron Cross, an Iron Cross 1st Class for 1914, a Silver Wound Badge, a Black Wound Badge, a Bar to the Iron Cross 2nd Class, a Bar to the Iron Cross 1st Class, an Infantry Assault Badge, a Narvik Shield on cloth background, a 4 Year Army Long Service Award, a Pair of Officer's Eppaulettes to a member of the 139 Mountain Trroop Regiment and a Wehrpass to the original holder of said grouping.

The Wehrpass is in my opinion, completed posthumously, as the holder died from wounds. It shows a photograph of the holder and lists his usual details as well as the units he served with and when he died. It also confirms his awards and his rank ending as an Oberst. Also in the wehrpass, are some dried edelweiss flowers, as well as a Citation saying he has died and saying he is a Knight's Cross holder, dated 12.5.1943. There are also three photographs, one showing him wearing his RK. The name of the knight's cross holder is Arthur Haußels

The following description of each piece in the group is below:
The Knight's Cross is a non-magnetic Juncker type which is in good overall condition and classed as an Early issue. The cross has no hallmarks to it at all and is very nicely finished, with no splitting or cracking. The medal loop on this example is also unmarked, as is often the case. This confirms the award was a nice Early issue for Narvik.

Then there is the nice original Early Iron Cross 1st Class, which is maker marked KO under the pin just below the hook. The cross appears to be silver and in very good overall condition. Again there is no cracking or splitting to the core or frame.
Then there is the Bar to the Iron Cross 1st Class. This example which is of Early tombak metal, has a nice eagle that is often stated to be the unknown maker. This example still retains its frosted and burnished finish as can be seen from the scan.
Then the Bar to the Iron Cross 2nd Class with the stubby winged eagle, all four pins are intact. The eagle is of Early quality and construction and unmarked. This all ties in with being early awards.

Then the Black Wound Badge, again an Early example of brassed metal that is painted. I can see no marks to it.The badge shows wear and tear.
Then there is the nice Early Silver Wound Badge, again this example is unmarked, but has been theorised it has been manufactured by B & NL as it has little cutouts to take the hinge and hook soldered into the back. The badge has a nice pin fixing and is of Early quality metal.
Next is a Narvik Armshield that has some oxidisation as well as some mothing, as can be seen from the scan. The shield is the zinc type with four pins fitted in the diamond shape. The shield itself could do with a mild clean, but it isn't too bad.
Then there is an Infantry Assault Badge that has had its hook pulled off, probably by the last collector who had it. The badge itself is an unmarked mid war example that has been cleaned over the years with Brasso or some such product, which is a no no! This accounts for its poor state.
Then there is the 4 Year Long Service Medal, which is a magnetic example with a magnetic eagle to the ribbon. The Ribbon is nice and clean and the medal and bar show age staining but nothing serious.
Finally, there are a Pair of Eppaulettes being an Oberst rank, with a single gold pip and silver twists with the numbers 139 in gilt to them, overlaid on a snooker table colour green backing. These are mothed but in good condition and came with the group. All in all, this is a nice and unusual and extremely Rare Early collection to one of the first Knight's Cross holders to be awarded the said highly esteemed decoration. SORRY I SOLD ON 30.7.22 FOR £ 27500.00
